Martin Boliek

Martin Boliek is a research, development, product, and business leader with technical expertise in video, image, and document processing, digital security, and web services and APIs.

Martin is currently an independent engineering consultant. Examples of hand-ons on design and deployment include a video editing and streaming service, addition of video and audio recognition APIs, and inventing a new mesh network with content cache, Martin has also driven intellectual property activities for various clients.

Martin was the Chief Technology Officer of Vieu Labs, a startup building simple consumer video capture, editing, sharing, and search technology. Martin built an international team of developers and contributed directly by developing the AWS backend. He used Python, Swift, and AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, and others.

Martin was the Chief Technology Officer of Document Capture Technologies, a provider of document capture hardware, software, and management solutions. There is conceived and designed the SimpleScan software. Built on the SimpleECM PaaS architecture, this system included several state-of-the-art features such as web control of the scanner via a local server driver; document and data workflows based on mashups of third-party and proprietary web services; and multiscreen, ubiquitous, extensible personal control over these workflows.

Before Document Capture Technologies, Martin was the Research Leader of the Color Image Processing group at Ricoh Innovations, Inc. There he conceived of, and championed, among other things, the JPEG 2000 Still Image Coding Standard.

With over 100 patents to his name, Martin is available to provide consulting services focused on intellectual property strategy and execution for start-up, small-, medium-sized businesses.
